The Rebel Bear A Wish for Freedom

- Originally painted in Glasgow city centre in 2021

The Rebel Bear A Wish for Freedom was first created in Glasgow city centre in 2021, during the quiet stillness of the UK’s COVID lockdown. The mural features a young girl blowing on a dandelion, its seeds transforming into a bird mid-flight – a powerful symbol of imagination becoming liberation.

Later, The Rebel Bear adapted A Wish for Freedom into a canvas version, adding a soft watercolour background to heighten its dream-like quality. Today, The Rebel Bear A Wish for Freedom has been faithfully repainted at full scale as part of the permanent exhibition at BOXXS Self Storage in Linlithgow.

This large-scale mural captures the longing for freedom, for escape, and for brighter skies ahead – just as it did when first revealed. Visitors to the exhibition can now experience The Rebel Bear A Wish for Freedom up close, surrounded by other iconic pieces from the artist.

The Rebel Bear A Wish for Freedom is one of several striking street art pieces on display at the BOXXS Linlithgow site n- na permanent open-air gallery of murals painted directly onto self storage containers.
