The Rebel Bear Moony

- Inspired by a real story in Kidderminster

The Rebel Bear Moony was painted in 2021 and tells the story of Darrell Meekcom, a terminally ill man arrested for mooning a speed camera as part of his bucket list. The work shows Bart Simpson flashing riot police – a provocative and humorous image, made all the more impactful by the very real, deeply human news story behind it.

The piece was created after Darrell’s story gained national attention. The Rebel Bear messaged him directly afterward, writing: “For however long you have left in this world, I hope your days are filled with love, playfulness and colour.”

The Rebel Bear Moony has been repainted at scale on a BOXXS Self Storage container for the street art exhibition at Mill Road Industrial Estate. ‘Moony’ stands as a rebellious, heartfelt tribute to defiance, absurdity, and personal freedom – even in the face of terminal illness.
